About
Our History
The company was founded and formed by Mr. B. Y. Chong and started off as a sole proprietorship as NewSound Hearing Healthcare in Year 2000 in Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya. It was situated in the middle income enclave suburb about 16km west of downtown Kuala Lumpur.
It was because of the owner’s hearing impaired son that gave him the inspirations and impetus to go into hearing dispensing. This is so that he could help him hear better as well as to provide quality hearing care services to the large number of other hearing impaired people in Malaysia who were without much choice for hearing healthcare services at the time, with only a handful around.
Mr. Chong noted that the hearing aid maker – Oticon’s founder, Hans Demant, who founded his company, did so for the same particular reason too: his wife was hearing impaired.
Why Hearing Aids?
Our other main reason for going into the hearing aid dispensing business is that we foresee a growing demand for hearing health care, which at the time when the practice was started, was barely known by the public and that hearing aids could improve the quality of life of hearing impaired people.
Our long term plan is to build more awareness of the importance of good hearing health in Malaysia by providing top notch hearing care services for the hearing impaired people seeking help from NewSound Hearing Healthcare. More NewSound Hearing branches are envisaged in other places soon . Mobile hearing care units are also in the pipelines.
Hearing Health in Malaysia
However, at this moment, our expansion plans are restricted as our country is very short of well-trained professional hearing instruments specialists and dispensers. Moreover, currently Malaysia has no tertiary training courses for hearing instruments specialist programmes.
Developed countries like the USA and Canada have started offering these programmes as long as 5 years ago and now more universities and colleges are offering this very unique course to train more people to meet the increasing demand for more qualified and trained hearing care professionals.
In Malaysia, UKM has a three-year Bachelor in Audiology programmes to churn out audiologists to serve in government and private hospitals whose jobs are mainly of clinical and diagnostic in nature.
What We Do
Unlike clinical audiology that handles mainly children and infants or pediatric cases, hearing aid dispensing is a very different discipline altogether that require 100% hearing instruments product knowledge that is prerequisite for good counseling and dispensing skills.
This is the service that New Sound Hearing Healthcare provides to our clients, from testing, diagnosing and finding the right products for any form of hearing disability. We do so with the latest technology and a wide range of products that suit the lifestyles of all types of people.
To us, “Sound is Life” and we aim to provide a better quality of living for our hearing impaired patients, no matter their walk of life.
ith the objective to provide quality hearing care services to the large number of other hearing impaired people in Malaysia who were without much choice for hearing healthcare services which was then only a handful of them around.
